Newsletter Issue 23
Here’s some of the content from my newsletter Issue 11 you can enjoy. Here’s the link to the entire newsletter should you want to read it. And you should, you’ve come this far. :)
Meeting a legend.
... You know what they say about meeting your heroes. Right, well sometimes it pans out. I got to meet and photograph J. Grant Brittain, THE skateboard photographer.
I'll try to not look like a fanboy during this segment of this newsletter as the legend himself gets this email (and reads it?).
Well, what a lovely man. I had wanted to photograph Grant for a few years now after seeing a retrospective of his work at MOPA where I frankly connected HARD with his work. Iy had stuck in a corner of my mind and the last time his work popped-up on my social media, I decided it was time to try my luck.
I did this photoshoot for me and me only but I'm happy share my experience.
A few details: I am so curious to understand and see how people are in their sanctums that my idea was to shoot behind-the-scenes, seeing the inner lives of other (more famous) photographers. Plus, I LOOVE photographers. We're a weird bunch and we all approach photography in a singular manner. Some of us are delighted by the ultra-technical aspect of the medium, others (like me) shoot from their gut and rely on their intuition to guide them. I felt I could intuitively understand Grant's art and process so I felt a connection.
Anyways, I really proud of these... and here are a few more.
More dads!!
I mean, it's pretty straight forward by this point... you know what I'm doing. I photograph fathers and their children. After taking a break on the project, I'm back at it. I have photographed 46 fathers so far and I'm not stopping any time soon.
I am hoping to exhibit these and make a book out of them soon... the exhibit, this year for sure.
Here are a few of the latest ones.
First wedding of the year:
Thank you to my friend Marlysis for bringing me on to be her second shooter this past Sunday. I had a great time and it feels like a real privilege every time I shoot a wedding.
I guess I'll say this every time but... this one felt special. Especially when it came to the speeches the brides delivered to their partner and their loving and supporting families. I was truly moved.
Here are a few images. Let me know what you think.
