Episode 8 of my newsletter is already out.

Well, it’s out.

Read it… I swear it’s entertaining.

Friends...

I'm happy to let you know that this newsletter is among the top 5 newsletters written by a French photographer in Eastern San Diego. :P

Catch up on the past issues right HERE
To recap for the new arrivals:

  1. It'll always be about what's going on in my photography world

  2. I'll send something only when there's an interesting update.

  3. I think you'll be relieved to know that I'm not really selling anything.

  4. it might get snarky.

  5. This is really so that we can stay in touch because Instagram gives me anxiety.

  6. It'll be inconsistent in quality. ;)

Today, 3 things and a quote...

Here goes...

A.

I won a COUPLE of things:
Image Competitions are a tough thing... Art is -by definition- subjective but sometimes good art is just that: good. And I am always very thankful when my peers recognize my work as being good art, especially in the Photojournalism category.

Sooo... Like the title suggests, I won for Best in Class, in Photojournalism AND in Weddings.

I'm very thankful because I love both of these photos and I am very proud of my work in both cases.

The first one is the photo of a new mother breastfeeding her newborn child... What could be a better and more beautiful story to tell!!? AND YET, I'll let you check it out that photo on my blog because it has boobies and stuff.

The other one (the wedding photo) is this little beauty right there... Yes, I know I knocked your socks off with this one (I'll probably hear it from my wife for that comment for sounding super cocky LOL).

BUT WAIT!! There are waaay more photos that are just as good to check out on the blog post that goes with that photo. Check them out.

B.

I don't photograph kids:

Yeah, and I don't do headshots or photograph high school seniors either. 🙄There's a snobbish and hypocritical statement if I've ever heard one. LOL. 🤷‍♂️

I think it's because I had a negative idea of what these portraits looked like in my mind and I did not think it was attractive. Yes, I can a little pompous and snobbish at times. I am French, soooo.

I like to photograph MY kids but when I started, the last thing I wanted or expected to be hired for was to do children studio photography. I'll spare you the details, but long story short, I was delighted to take photos of my friend's children when she came over to visit from England... Actually, that's the extent of the story.

So I actually had a blast photographing those kids... even if they spent an hour griping and complaining ...
"he's too close," "I don't like touching her," "he stinks," "she's annoying."

Typical sibling stuff.

A photo of my friend:

I am working on a personal project when I have some time and this is one of the latest installments of that long term project. I am super proud of it. Damien is a freaking great guy and I had wanted to photograph him for a while now. I am very pleased he indulged me when he and his awesome wife Aimee came over one day.

and ... D.

Here's a quote I like:

"I'm an author, not a photographer. I write biographies with pictures."

                                                                                          - Allison English.

Explanatory comma: Although she is a traditional family photographer, Allison and I think the same. We want to achieve the same things with our photographs. She controls the narrative whereas I am just here to witness it.

That's it for today.
