Newsletter Issue 25: Featured in NPR
An appearance...
As I do every morning, I check my emails and social media... and low and behold I receive a Google alert for my name (Yessir, I have one set up because I like to know where my name travels). So, It's not completely unusual to receive one but I'm still surprised. So obviously I check it out as I suppose it's a Facebook mention or from my blog or something...
Imagine my surprise as my eyes are bugging out when I notice that the alert is for a mention on NPR and that one of MY photos is featured (and credited) in an interview with Hari Kondabolu about the meaning of fatherhood.
Holy Irving Penn Batman, this is huge!!
One of my favorite NPR podcasts interviews one of my favorite comics about fatherhood and it features a picture I took for "Portraits of my father."
Made my day...
An award...
I met my friend Daniel through the Professional Photographers of San Diego County, and I always knew I wanted to photograph him, so I recently finally asked him.
He'll tell you that he does not like being in front of the camera and that he's not a good model, and that he only did it because he respects my photographic talents (such as they are)... and I'll tell you he's completely right. and completely wrong.
He was right for HALF of our session... he photographs well and looks good on camera BUT he was not giving in to the session. I could tell, but after a while, something clicked and I saw his behavior change. he stopped holding back and when he did, the session took life.
As it often happens, I let people pause themselves and that's usually when the magic happens. and judges seemed to agree at my last competition because In was able to bring in the best photo award, in the Portrait category.
